Week 5 - Enhancing My Skills in IT Support and Administrative Assistance

5th On-The-Job Training week March 3, 2025 - March 7, 2025

As I entered my fifth week of OJT, my tasks became more diverse — from hardware replacement, software installation, and device configuration to assisting with administrative tasks. I also participated in a university event, giving me a well-rounded experience this week. Here’s a summary of my activities.

Day 1: Hardware Replacement and Troubleshooting

I began the week by replacing outdated hard drives with updated ones in Computer Laboratory 2203 and installing new software on the units. I also assisted the CSIT department’s computer technician in fixing a printer brought to the office. Additionally, I troubleshooted software issues on a computer unit from another office, which helped enhance my troubleshooting skills.

Day 2: Device Setup and Configuration

This day was filled with device configuration tasks. I helped set up, configure, and initialize newly supplied devices across different offices. This included setting up a laptop for the admin office and multiple printers for the registrar, cashier, supply, budget, and dean's offices. This task improved my knowledge of device setup and configuration processes, which are essential in IT support.

Day 3: Event Participation and Technical Support

I had the opportunity to participate in the parade for the celebration of Women's Month alongside my co-leagues. After the event, I assisted faculty members in delivering paperwork to the appropriate offices. Later, I helped the CSIT department’s computer technician in fixing a laptop and troubleshooted a computer unit, further honing my skills in hardware maintenance.

Day 4: Continuous Hardware Replacement and Printer Repair

I resumed my task of replacing outdated hard drives with updated ones in Lab 2203 and installing new software. Additionally, I pulled out a faulty printer from the Chemistry department and helped the CSIT department’s computer technician fix it. I also assisted faculty members with paperwork requiring signatures from signatories and visited the Research Extension office to troubleshoot a faulty printer. This day helped me understand the importance of providing technical assistance across various departments.

Day 5: Finalizing Hardware Replacements and Assisting with Paperwork

On the last day of the week, I continued replacing outdated hard drives and installing new software in Lab 2203. Additionally, I continued helping faculty members deliver paperwork for signatures and started retrieving manuscripts that still needed signatories to complete the documentation. Balancing technical support with administrative tasks gave me a deeper understanding of the role of IT in supporting institutional operations.

This week, I gained a broader perspective on IT support by engaging in hardware replacement, software installation, device configuration, and administrative assistance. I also had the opportunity to contribute to different offices by helping deliver paperwork and retrieving manuscripts. This experience reinforced my multitasking abilities and showed me how important IT is in ensuring smooth operations within an institution. I’m excited to see what tasks await me in the upcoming weeks!
