Week 3 - System Updates and Software Deployment
3rd On-The-Job Training week February 17, 2025 - February 21, 2025
As I progressed into my third week of OJT, my responsibilities expanded to system updates, troubleshooting, and software deployment. I spent most of the week ensuring that the computer units were running the latest operating system and preparing them for new software implementations. Here’s a breakdown of my tasks for the week.
Day 1: Operating System Updates and Hard Drive Cloning
I started the week by updating the operating system of computer units in Computer Laboratory 2203. These updates ensure that the systems remain secure, stable, and compatible with the latest applications. Alongside this, I continued cloning hard drives, preparing them for future installations.
Day 2: More Updates and Fixing PC Vacuum Cleaners
I continued updating the operating system on the remaining units in Lab 2203. Later in the day, I troubleshooted and fixed PC vacuum cleaners, which are essential for maintaining dust-free computer hardware. This was a new experience for me, reinforcing the importance of keeping workspaces clean to prevent hardware issues caused by dust buildup.
Day 3: Hard Drive Swapping
With the operating system updates completed, I opened up the remaining computer units in Lab 2203 and swapped out the old hard drives with the newly updated ones. This task required careful handling to ensure that each unit received the correct drive, minimizing errors in the system configuration.
Day 4: Troubleshooting and Software Testing
I spent the day troubleshooting computer units and testing drive compatibility across different machines. Additionally, I tested installing a new software that would later be implemented across all computer units. This step was crucial in verifying whether the software functioned correctly before rolling it out on a larger scale.
Day 5: Software Deployment and System Maintenance
On the last day of the week, I installed the newly tested software on the master clone drive, ensuring that it was ready for deployment. After that, I worked on tidying up the work area, installing any missing software, and adding necessary files to the network shared folder. Finally, I proceeded to install the new software across computer units in Computer Laboratory 2105, completing another significant task for the week.
This week provided me with valuable experience in software deployment, system updates, and troubleshooting. I gained a better understanding of compatibility issues, system maintenance, and the importance of pre-testing software before rolling it out. Each task helped improve my efficiency, accuracy, and problem-solving skills. Looking forward to more challenges and learning opportunities in the coming weeks!
