Week 2 - Expanding My Technical Skills

2nd On-The-Job Training week February 10, 2025 - February 14, 2025

My second week of OJT was more hands-on, allowing me to gain deeper experience in hardware documentation, system updates, cloning, and even assisting with office tasks. Compared to my first week, I worked on a broader range of tasks, including fixing a printer and installing software. Here’s a breakdown of my activities this week.

Day 1: More Hardware Documentation

I started the week by opening computer units in Computer Laboratory 2202 to document their component specifications. I recorded the brand, serial number, and model of each component in a spreadsheet, contributing to the PC identification and repair history. This task is crucial for tracking hardware status and ensuring an organized maintenance process.

Day 2: Cloning and Administrative Assistance

In the morning, I continued documenting computer specs in Lab 2202. By the afternoon, I shifted to Computer Laboratory 2204, where I pulled out SSDs for updating. I then moved to the faculty room to start cloning the master system image onto these SSDs using Clonezilla. Additionally, I assisted faculty members by delivering important documents to designated offices, which gave me insight into the administrative side of IT support.

Day 3: SSD Cloning and Reinstallation

The day was focused on system updates. I continued cloning SSDs for the lab computers, and once completed, I reinstalled them into their respective units in Lab 2204. To maintain efficiency, I pulled out more outdated SSDs and prepared them for cloning. I also helped in labeling documents for signatures, which gave me an appreciation for the small but essential tasks that keep a workplace running smoothly.

Day 4: Printer Repair and Software Installation

This day was a mix of hardware and software-related tasks. I assisted the department technician in troubleshooting and fixing a printer, which helped me understand more about printer maintenance and common hardware issues. Additionally, I installed and activated Microsoft Office on a device from another department, reinforcing my skills in software deployment and activation.

Day 5: Completing System Updates

On the last day of the week, I reinstalled the updated SSDs and hard drives in the computers in Lab 2204, ensuring that they were up and running with the latest configurations. I also continued cloning outdated hard drives that were previously swapped out from Lab 2203, preparing them for future use. This task highlighted the importance of maintaining up-to-date storage devices to keep systems efficient and secure.

This week, I expanded my skills beyond hardware documentation and cloning. I was able to assist in troubleshooting, software installation, and even administrative tasks. These experiences have shown me the diverse responsibilities involved in IT support. I’m excited to continue learning and improving my technical expertise in the coming weeks!
