Week 11 - Hardware Tasks and Network Setup Before the Holy Week Break
11th On-The-Job Training week April 14, 2025 - April 15, 2025
This week was a brief one due to the observance of the Holy Week holidays, but the two days I reported for duty were still productive. I focused on hardware diagnostics and network maintenance, which are essential to keeping the labs running smoothly.
Day 1: PC Identification and Network Maintenance in Lab 2101
I began the week by performing PC identification for the computer units in Computer Laboratory 2101, documenting essential details like model numbers, serial numbers, and hardware configurations. This is part of our ongoing task to build an updated inventory and maintenance history for the university’s computer labs. Later in the day, I worked on improving the lab’s connectivity. I replaced an old network hub that was no longer performing well and created new Ethernet cables to restore network connections to units that had defective or damaged ones. The task allowed me to apply my skills in basic networking, especially in cable crimping and layout configuration.
Day 2: Continuation of Identification and Troubleshooting in Lab 2102
On my second workday, I continued the PC identification task, this time in Computer Laboratory 2102. Alongside that, I began troubleshooting faulty computer units, checking for hardware or software issues, and addressing them accordingly. This gave me more hands-on time with diagnosing real-world issues in a lab setting.
Despite the short week, I appreciated the opportunity to focus on networking and inventory work—both of which are crucial behind-the-scenes aspects of maintaining IT infrastructure. It was also satisfying to see how quickly network performance improved after replacing the hub and cables. These small tasks play a big role in keeping the labs functional and ready for students.
